This particular song came about while Noel was in a more subdued mood than he’d been in for a long time. Life’s problems were still present, but he was feeling a little more relaxed for a change.

Wishin’, Hopin’, Prayin’ was more or less a reflective moment for him. He took a somber look into the timeframe of his having gotten married at such a young age, viewing his wife and himself for what they truly were at the time of marriage. And what’s that, exactly? She was just a child, 17, and he was just a boy with wild dreams.

What were some of those dreams that he had for himself? Perhaps they consisted of one day experiencing a taste of fame and fortune. Perhaps they had something to do with one day making a significant impact on the entire world. Maybe he dreamed of experiencing perfect love. Whatever his dreams might have been, if he described them as being wild, they likely fell into the realm of being almost impossible for the average person to achieve.
