Just for Fun Digital Download © Noel Carol 2000 - 2025 NMW Music Productions
An excerpt from Chapter Twenty-one titled "Just for Fun" from
Left Unread The Stories Behind the Songs of Noel Carol that tells the story about writing letters that never got mailed.
His nemesis lingered with him intermittently throughout the day – Loneliness. But when evening arrived, he just couldn’t get rid of it.
On occasion, he’d write a letter to Rose, in hopes of making sense of everything. This went on for months. Not one of them ever got mailed out, however. Perhaps he unknowingly wrote them as a form of self-therapy.
But on this one particular night, not only was he to write a letter; a song was to be written as well. He doesn’t recall for certain if he’d written both simultaneously but perhaps he had. Loneliness certainly had a way of occupying his time. The best method to deal with it was by taking his thoughts of her from within his mind and inking them onto a sheet of paper. It was the closest thing to actually talking with her in person. Having written so many times in the recent past, he had finally reached the point where he had nothing left to say to her. What the heck? He’d write it anyway. What for? By this time, he’d accumulated a stack of unsent letters in a drawer. He’d write this one last letter just for the fun of it and throw it in the drawer with the other ones.
